Tuberculosis Technical Assistance Mechanism (TBTEAM) European regional meeting

2–3 June 2014, Copenhagen, Denmark

In collaboration with WHO headquarters and the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM), WHO/Europe is planning a two-day regional TBTEAM meeting for national TB control programmes (NTPs) and GFATM TB Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) representatives in Copenhagen, Denmark on 2–3 June 2014.

The main aim is to discuss the GFATM new funding model (NFM), national TB strategic plans, country concept note development and technical assistance needs. During the event, the countries that are more advanced in the process will also share their experience.

The following are eligible and will be represented by their respective NTPs and CCM representatives: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan (presenting first-hand experience of NFM), Kosovo (in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolution 1244 (1999)), Kyrgyzstan, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

Expected outcomes are:

  • updated mapping of which countries need to update national strategic and/or MDR-TB plans for 2014-2015, what technical assistance is needed and how plans have been recently updated (if the process has already started); and
  • understand the new funding mechanism process of the Global Fund and the next steps for a specific country application from the WHO European Region (identification of technical assistance needed for Epi Info analysis, financial analysis and national strategic plan development) and the steps involved in the subsequent concept note development to the Global Fund.
