Workshops on safe transport of infectious substances and laboratory biorisk management
30 June–4 July 2014, Ashgabat, Turkmenistan
Two courses coordinated by WHO/Europe will be offered in Ashgabat as part of a project supported by the European Union to strengthen health laboratories in order to minimize potential biological risks.
A 2-day course to train and certify shippers of infectious substances (IS) on applicable international transport regulations will focus on the background, terms and categorization of IS as well as requirements related to packaging, labelling, documentation and refrigeration. Participants who pass the course receive an internationally recognized certificate.
The second course targets professionals who train and educate others in biorisk management – to ultimately reduce the threat of infectious disease in local laboratory environments. It focuses on risk assessment, risk mitigation and performance management as key elements of sustainable biorisk management.
