International conference on prison health
2–3 October 2014, Portlaoise, Ireland
WHO/Europe, the Irish Prison Service and Public Health England jointly organized an international conference on prison health, which was held at the Irish Prison Service College.
The theme was “empowering people in prison, improving lives in the community”. The conference explored how health care, training and support provided in custody can reduce repeat offences and prepare prisoners to live more productive lives after returning to the community.
The conference brought together expert participants from health and justice organizations in the WHO European Region to discuss the theme, share good practices and learn from each other.
