Consultation on sustainable access to vaccines in middle-income countries

24–25 November 2014, Istanbul, Turkey

WHO has convened a task force to generate a shared strategy to ensure sustainable access to vaccines for middle-income countries. It is holding a meeting in Istanbul to collect input from 12 middle-income countries for the development of a strategy and action plan, to be shared with major immunization stakeholders in April 2015.

The participants will also discuss the countries’ performance under the Global Vaccine Action Plan (and expected performance in the near future under the European Vaccine Action Plan) to identify gaps and country needs. The participants will include health ministry officials (managers of national immunization programmes and staff in charge of vaccine procurement, planning and budgeting, and issuing market authorization for vaccines) who are familiar with the challenges that middle-income countries are facing with the uptake of both current and new vaccines.
