Introduction to Laboratory Quality Management and the Laboratory Quality Stepwise Implementation (LQSI) tool
17–21 November 2014, Tirana, Albania
As part of the Better Labs for Better Health project, a 5-day training course has been organized by WHO/Europe, in collaboration with the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) and the Southeast European Center for Surveillance and Control of Infectious Diseases (SECID). The Better Labs for Better Health project aims to strengthen laboratory capacities in eastern Europe and central Asia. This course will focus on National Influenza Centre (NIC) capacity and virological surveillance in eastern Europe.
24 virologists from NICs in the WHO European Region will take part in the course, which will introduce Laboratory Quality Management and the Laboratory Quality Stepwise Implementation (LQSI) tool. The LQSI tool was developed by KIT for WHO.
The course will help laboratories fulfill the requirements of ISO 15189, the internationally accepted standard for medical laboratories, and attain accreditation as well as WHO-recognized NIC status. KIT Biomedical Research is a WHO Collaborating Centre for laboratory strengthening and supports WHO/Europe in strengthening laboratories across the Region.
