Meeting of Government Chief Nursing Officers and national Nursing and Midwifery Associations in the WHO European Region
8 – 9 April, 2015, Riga, Latvia
The Regional Office in partnership with the Ministry of Health of Latvia convenes its biannual meeting of the Government Chief Nursing Officers and national Nursing and Midwifery Associations in the WHO European Region in Riga, Latvia.
The aim of the meeting is to further strategize strengthening nursing and midwifery in the region and to promote good practices in nursing and midwifery towards achieving Health 2020 goals. The Regional Office is working closely with government Chief Nursing Officers and national Nursing and Midwifery Associations in Member States to build a common platform for sharing information and knowledge on nursing and midwifery.
The focus of this year's event is on the role of nurses and midwives in transforming health services delivery towards people-centred health systems for improved health outcomes. Health 2020, the policy framework for health and well-being in the WHO European Region, has highlighted the increasingly important role of nurses and midwives in improving health outcomes.
The meeting provides an opportunity to finalize a consultation process on the draft European Strategic Directions for Strengthening Nursing and Midwifery towards Health 2020 goals (ESDNM), which was kick started at the Regional Committee technical briefing in September 2014. The ESDNM will be launched during the 65th session of the Regional Committee in Vilnius, Lithuania. The European compendium of good practices in nursing and midwifery based on 55 case studies will also be presented at the meeting in Riga.
The meeting, which is expected to host more than 100 participants, is organized in close collaboration with and support from the European Forum of National Nursing and Midwifery Associations (EFNNMA) and the WHO country office in Latvia.
