Participant notes from a previous LQSI training course.

9–13 November 2015, Ashgabat, Turkmenistan

This course, organized through the Better Labs for Better Health (BLBH) initiative, aims to introduce a quality management system based on the international quality standard ISO 15189 and the Laboratory Quality Stepwise Implementation (LQSI) tool. Since 2014, 76 professionals from 23 countries have taken part in this training as part of the BLBH initiative, which is working to improve quality management systems in health-related laboratories.

This 5-day training module was developed as post-graduate training for laboratory managers, (future) quality officers and senior laboratory technologists, to provide them with the competencies to implement a quality management system according to international quality standards.

Participants include laboratory specialists from the health ministry, along with public health and clinical diagnostic laboratories. Satisfactory completion of this course supports the long-term goal of helping laboratories fulfil the requirements of the standard to enable accreditation. It was developed by the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) in the Netherlands for WHO.
