Workshop on improving midwifery education in Uzbekistan
3–5 November 2015, Tashkent, Uzbekistan
In collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan the WHO/Europe programme on Human Resources for Health prepared a series of activities focused on midwifery education and practice. A team of experts from the WHO Collaborating Centre on Midwifery at Cardiff University will participate in a 2 day workshop and site visits to the Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute and The Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Pediatrics.
The objectives are:
- to familiarize participants with the European strategic directions for strengthening nursing and midwifery towards Health 2020 goals, recently launched at 65th session of the Regional Committee in Vilnius, Lithuania;
- to share European experiences in midwifery education and practice;
- to review a new national curriculum on midwifery in Uzbekistan and provide recommendations for strengthening the new curriculum to optimize health outcomes.
