Workshop on laboratory systems improvement in eastern Europe and central Asia

9–12 May 2016, Copenhagen, Denmark

Since 2013, 5 countries in eastern Europe and central Asia (Kyrgyzstan, the Republic of Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) have been involved in the improvement of their diagnostic and public health laboratory systems under the Better Labs for Better Health initiative, coordinated by WHO/Europe. In each country, a National Laboratory Working Group (NLWG) was formally appointed by the government. The NLWGs, composed of leading laboratory specialists in each country, are central to the development of national laboratory policies and strategic plans, evaluation of the laboratory training curricula and the implementation of activities to improve the diagnostic and public health laboratory services in the country.

During this four-day interactive workshop, NLWG members from the 5 countries will interact to exchange experiences. They will be introduced to the latest developments in the field of laboratory sciences, which will allow them to become and remain national leaders in the field of laboratory sciences in their respective countries.
