5th Joint WHO/Europe–ECDC Annual European Influenza Surveillance Meeting
14–16 June 2016, Budapest, Hungary
WHO/Europe and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) have been jointly holding annual influenza surveillance meetings since 2011. This 5th Annual Meeting brings together epidemiologists and virologists – the national influenza surveillance focal points – from the 53 Member States of the WHO European Region to coordinate surveillance activities related to the prevention and control of influenza in the Region.
The main objectives of this year's Annual Meeting are to:
- provide an overview of the 2015–2016 influenza season and discuss opportunities and challenges related to influenza surveillance for the upcoming 2016–2017 influenza season;
- present new developments with respect to the joint ECDC–WHO/Europe Flu News Europe bulletin;
- provide an overview of the global situation regarding influenza, as well as global surveillance developments; and
- maintain and strengthen collaboration and information sharing among network members.
In addition to national influenza focal points, the meeting will be attended by representatives of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza, United Kingdom; the European Influenza Monitoring of Vaccine Effectiveness (I-MOVE), the Vaccine European New Integrated Collaboration Effort (VENICE) and the European monitoring of excess mortality for public health action (EuroMoMo) projects; the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; and other involved international institutions. Among the speakers will be Professor Michael Laessig from the University of Cologne, Germany.
