WHO practical course on influenza virus isolation and characterization for national influenza laboratories
6–10 June 2016, Ljubljana, Slovenia
A five-day practical training course for virologists from the national influenza laboratories in Podgorica (Montenegro) and Skopje (the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) will be held at the National Influenza Centre (NIC) – Ljubljana at the Laboratory for Public Health Virology, National Laboratory for Health, Environment and Food, Slovenia.
The practical course is part of an annual WHO programme on training of influenza virologists and the Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Framework Partnership Contribution Implementation Plan 2013–2016. It is organized in collaboration with the WHO-recognized NIC in Ljubljana.
The main goal of the training is to strengthen virological surveillance of influenza by enhancing the capabilities of staff from participating national influenza laboratories to perform influenza virus isolation in cell cultures, and to identify the haemagglutinin subtype of viral isolates by haemagglutination inhibition testing.
