3rd mentoring visit to National Influenza Centre in St Petersburg under the Better Labs for Better Health initiative

WHO

11–15 July 2016, St Petersburg, Russian Federation

Following the mentoring visits in November 2015 and March 2016, a third visit to the National Influenza Centre (NIC) in St Petersburg at the Research Institute of Influenza of the Ministry of Health will be conducted to review progress and to further develop the Quality Management Systems (QMS) Action Plan. During the second visit, the QMS Action Plan was reviewed and mentors gave presentations on assay validation and verification, uncertainty of measurement and on internal audit.

The aim of the third visit is to follow up on the QMS Action Plan implementation and provide staff with a 3-day WHO Biorisk Management training. This training introduces the new concept of biorisk management, which combines risk assessment, risk mitigation and performance systems. The course gives participants an opportunity to use a robust methodology to identify and control the biosafety and biosecurity risks of medical and bioscience laboratories.

Training will be organized by the WHO Regional Office for Europe in collaboration with the WHO-recognized NIC–St Petersburg. It is expected that the course will be attended by approximately 25 participants, comprised of staff members from NIC–St Petersburg and NIC–Moscow at the D.I. Ivanovsky Research Institute of Virology FSBI "N.F. Gamaleya FRCEM" of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

This activity is supported by funds received through the Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Framework Partnership Contribution.
