Meeting of Antimicrobial Medicine Consumption (AMC) network

19–20 September 2016, Copenhagen, Denmark

At the Sixty-eighth World Health Assembly held in May 2015, Member States adopted the Global action plan on antimicrobial resistance. An important element of the plan is monitoring the consumption of antimicrobial medicines.

As an initiative of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, the AMC network aims to support data collection in countries of the WHO European Region that are not part of the European Surveillance of Antimicrobial Consumption Network (ESAC-Net), coordinated by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control in the European Union.

18 Member States as well as Kosovo (in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolution 1244 (1999)) participate in the AMC network.

The meeting, hosted by the Health Technologies and Pharmaceuticals programme of WHO/Europe, will allow participants to:

  • share analysis of antimicrobial consumption data collected by AMC network countries in 2014;
  • receive training in data analysis;
  • discuss ways to communicate findings to stakeholders; and
  • consider other approaches to understanding antimicrobial consumption and share country experiences.
