Training in laboratory quality management and the LQSI tool for national influenza centres

WHO/Europe’s influenza and other respiratory pathogens programme is supporting the participation of 5 specialists from national influenza centres (NICs) in Armenia, Lithuania, Malta and the Russian Federation in a training course on laboratory quality management and the WHO Laboratory Quality Stepwise Implementation (LQSI) tool. These specialists are responsible for the implementation of laboratory quality management towards the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 15189 accreditation in their respective NIC.

The course is organized by the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT), Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Participation will be funded under the Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Framework Partnership Contribution.

The course provides participants with the theoretical background and practical expertise required to efficiently implement a quality management system. Training covers:

  • understanding the concept of quality and introducing the principles of quality management in the diagnostic/public health laboratory;
  • understanding ISO 15189 quality management system elements and utilizing the LQSI tool for implementation of the system; and
  • establishing the capacity to plan the implementation of the quality management system in line with the laboratory’s routine daily work.
