Health in the criminal justice system annual conference

3–4 November 2016, Copenhagen, Denmark

WHO/Europe and Public Health England jointly organized an international conference and regional consultation on health in the criminal justice system.

The main aim of the conference was to share good practice on prison health focusing on the topic of death in custody. Speakers addressed causes of deaths within the prison settings as well as effective prevention strategies for reducing the high mortality that the prison population experience as compared to the general population. WHO/Europe Member State representatives and international experts shared their experiences and also reported on specific issues or progress within parts of the European Region, as well as beyond.

The WHO Health in Prisons Programme aims to promote health in prisons as part of the overall public health agenda.
