Expert group meeting on the cultural contexts of health and well-being

13–14 March 2017, UNESCO, Paris, France

The third expert group meeting on the cultural contexts of health and well-being (CCH) will take place on 13–14 March 2017. It has been co-organized with UNESCO (which is also hosting). The meeting will explore how WHO and UNESCO can benefit from each other’s expertise – for instance, in the area of cultural competency training within migration and health.

The outputs from the meeting will include:

  • technical feedback on two draft research outputs;
  • concrete suggestions regarding work to be commissioned by the CCH secretariat, including Health Evidence Network synthesis reports and policy briefs; and
  • an action plan for collaboration between UNESCO and WHO on a specific technical area.

Background

The CCH project was launched in response to a call by the Member States in the WHO European Region for more locally grounded and culturally sensitive approaches to health. It seeks to enhance public health policy-making through a nuanced understanding of how cultural contexts affect health and health care. The interagency collaboration between UNESCO and WHO was initiated at the second expert group meeting to facilitate joint work around matters of common concern; the third meeting formally marks the beginning of this partnership.
