European Development Days (EDD) is a forum organized each year by the European Commission to bring the development community together to share ideas and experiences. This year’s event takes place in Brussels, Belgium, on 7–8 June 2017.

Reducing health inequalities in the framework of the SDGs: the need for stronger global health partnership and intersectoral collaboration

WHO will host a session on 7 June from 16:00–17:30 under the theme “Reducing health inequalities in the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”. The session will explore the crucial links between health and development, health and wealth, and the opportunities presented through stronger global health partnership.

Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General elect, will give a keynote speech, and a round-table discussion will follow. Professor Ilona Kickbusch, Director of the Global Health Centre at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland, will moderate the discussion. It will include the following panellists:

  • Dr Vytenis Andriukaitis, European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, European Commission;
  • Her Excellency Dr Diane Gashumba, Minister of Health, Republic of Rwanda;
  • Dr Alaa Murabit, Sustainable Development Goal Global Advocate, United Nations; and
  • Ms Kalaba Nkonde, Young Leader Programme Representative, European Development Days.
