Annual Meeting of the WHO European National Healthy Cities Networks

18–20 September 2017, Prague, Czech Republic

The Annual Meeting of European National Healthy Cities Networks will bring together political leaders and network coordinators to discuss, debate, and shape the future political direction of the next phase of work, aligning the network to global and regional policy processes and frameworks, as well as ensuring it is nationally relevant across the Network. The meeting will explore the roles and responsibilities of National Networks; accountability mechanisms towards the WHO Regional Office and the city members; as well as sharing recent good practice between the Networks.

Objectives

The meeting will have four key objectives:

  1. to input into the renewed political vision that presents a shared aspiration for cities that place reduced inequalities and improved health and well-being for all at their core, and on the journey required to get there;
  2. to identify how National Networks can support cities in their response to change in societies; culturally, socially, economically and environmentally, to meet and overcome the current challenges to achieving sustainable development, improved health and well-being for all, and reducing inequalities;
  3. to redefine the roles and responsibilities of the National Networks in the upcoming phase of the WHO European Healthy Cities Network, including accountability and partnerships;
  4. to share recent good practice and learning.

Outcomes

The meeting will work towards three key outcomes:

  1. to input into the renewed political vision that presents a shared aspiration for cities that place reduced inequalities and improved health and well-being for all at their core, and on the journey required to get there;
  2. to identify priority areas for the development of the criteria for WHO accredited National Healthy Cities Networks for the next phase of work;
  3. to agree on the roles and responsibilities of the National Networks in the next phase of the WHO European Healthy Cities Network.
