Laboratory mentor’s meeting under the Better Labs for Better Health initiative

23–24 May 2018, Prague, Czech Republic

Laboratory mentors and staff members from WHO/Europe will attend an interactive meeting in Prague, Czech Republic on 23–24 May 2018. The 14 participants will discuss the latest developments in the laboratory field and review all the mentoring activities performed under the Better Labs Better Health initiative in order to learn from one another and to improve mentoring skills. The national mentors from Kyrgyzstan mentoring the regional child and maternity hospital laboratories have been invited to exchange experience with the team of international mentors. Participants will discuss the common challenges that mentors face and will work to find potential solutions.

Background

The mentoring project aims to strengthen laboratories’ abilities to provide timely and accurate results, which are essential for the early detection of acute public health events. During their visits, mentors give practical recommendations, help to develop action plans for quality management system implementation and improvement, perform audits and provide training.
