Global Conference on Primary Health Care

On the 40th anniversary of the Declaration of Alma-Ata, representatives from all over the world will, once again, converge in the city of Astana to renew their commitment to strengthening primary health care to achieve universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Global Conference on Primary Health Care will involve heads of state and government, ministers of health and other senior officials. The programme will cover topics such as building the workforce of the 21st century, integrating the delivery of services and increasing the resolution capacity of the first level of care.

Proceedings will conclude with the adoption of the Astana Declaration on Primary Health Care, a draft of which was made available online for comment. About 500 comments were incorporated into the draft document from a broad range of stakeholders, including patients, practitioners, policy-makers and educators.
