ESCMID WHO observership programme 2018

10–11 December 2018, Copenhagen, Denmark

Ten observers from the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) will visit WHO/Europe on 10–11 December 2018 as part of the ESCMID WHO observership programme.

This programme, running since 2013, is designed to allow ESCMID members interact with WHO staff from the Division of Health Emergencies and Communicable Diseases (DEC) and become familiar with the Organization’s scope of work. At the end of the 2 days, observers evaluate the programme and report on the visit.

Activities

The observers will learn about the work of WHO/Europe, and specifically the areas covered by DEC. This includes the joint tuberculosis, HIV and viral hepatitis programme and the WHO Health Emergencies Programme.

The group will then meet with several technical units within DEC to get a more detailed description of their activities, including those related to antimicrobial resistance, influenza and other respiratory pathogens, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, hepatitis, vaccine-preventable infections, country emergency preparedness, the International Health Regulations (2005), alert and response operations, and vector-borne and parasitic diseases.

Participants will present their own country, work and research activities, and visit both WHO/Europe and UN City in Copenhagen, which hosts many United Nations organizations.
