International Migrants Day – launch event of the Migration and Health Technical Guidance series and pre-launch of the “Report on the health of refugees and migrants in the WHO European Region"
18 December 2018, Copenhagen, Denmark
To coincide with the International Migrants Day on 18 December, WHO will organize a technical pre-launch of the Report on the Health of Refugees and Migrants in the WHO European Region and the new Technical Guidance series which are part of the Migration Health Knowledge Management (MiKHMa) project at UN City in Copenhagen, Denmark.
This event will be held under the patronage of the WHO Regional Director attended by high level speakers including representatives of the European Commission and the National Institute of Migration and Poverty, Italy. In addition, there will be a live streamed panel discussion reviewing the lessons learned and potential impact and utility of the report and guidance for policymaking in Member States and at country-level.
As international migration grows in scope, complexity and impact, there is a need to collate evidence to inform policies and fill knowledge gaps in the area of migration and health in the Region. The Report on the Health of Refugees and Migrants in the WHO European Region, prepared by the Migration and Health Programme at WHO/Europe, is the first WHO report of its kind, creating an evidence base with the aim to support evidence-informed policy making to meet the needs of refugees and migrants and the health needs of the host populations. The Technical Guidance series developed over a period of two years covering 5 priority issues in refugee and migrant health: child health, elderly health, health promotion, mental health, and maternal and newborn healthis a tool for policy makers to address the issues identified in the report and evidence source. The final version of the report will be launched in early 2019.
