Fifth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health

Preparation

In preparation for the Fifth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health, WHO/Europe organized a series of events to shape the Conference agenda, including a process leading to the final declaration that aimed at its full ownership by countries and partner organizations.

• Declaration meeting and thirtieth meeting of the European Environment and Health Committee, Bonn, Germany, 14–15 January 2010
  Finalized the details for the Fifth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health.
• Consultation on environment and health priorities and needs of newly independent states (NIS), Dushanbe, Tajikistan, 26-27 October 2009
  Identified common priorities for NIS and input for action to be presented at the conference.
• Consultation on environment and health priorities and needs of south-eastern European (SEE) countries, Belgrade, Serbia, 24-25 September 2009
  Identified common priorities for SEE countries and input for action to be presented at the conference.
• Third High-level Preparatory Meeting, Bonn, Germany, 27-29 April 2009
  Last of such meetings.
• Thematic Meeting on Healthy Environments, Luxembourg, 28-29 January 2009
  Advanced the drafting of the conference declaration, including input on ways to address respiratory disease, obesity and injuries.
• Policy dialogue on public health reform and sanitary-epidemiological stations (SANEPIDs) in the countries of eastern Europe, the Caucasus and central Asia, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, 10-12 November 2008
  Policy dialogue including a session on environmental health.
• Second High-level Preparatory Meeting, Madrid, Spain, 22-24 October 2008
  Addressed Regional Priority Goals 3 and 4 of the Children's Environment and Health Action Plan for Europe (CEHAPE), as well as the main political document of the conference.
• International Public Health Symposium on Environment and Health Research, Madrid, Spain 20-22 October 2008
  Science for policy, policy for science: bridging the gap.
• First High-level Preparatory Meeting, Milan, Italy, 10-12 March 2008
  Launched preparations.
