European countries to agree new targets to fight environmental threats to health

Respiratory disease kills 1 in every 2000 babies in Europe

In some countries in the WHO European Region, 1–5 infants per 1000 still die from respiratory diseases, with the highest rates in the east.
More physically active children in Europe, but obesity rates still rising

Physical activity among children has increased: from 2001 to 2005, the proportion of 11-year-olds who were physically active at least five times a week rose by 6% among boys and 10% among girls.
European roads too dangerous for young people

In the WHO European Region, road traffic injuries kill about 100 children and young people aged under 25 every day. For every death, there are on average 35 non-fatal injuries, often with long-term effects on victims’ health.
Rise in access to safe water in Europe

Further work is needed to continue improving access to safe drinking-water at home, sewerage systems and safe bathing water throughout the European Region.
