The Conference is a key milestone in the international campaign to curb the impact of cancers, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and chronic lung diseases. It is jointly organized by the Russian Federation and WHO and aims to support Member States in developing and strengthening policies and programmes on healthy lifestyles and NCD prevention. These efforts are based on WHO’s Global Strategy for the Prevention and Control of NCDs and its Action Plan, which include multisectoral and innovative approaches in prevention and care. The Ministerial Conference has three main goals:
A WHO multi-stakeholder Global Forum is planned to precede the Ministerial Conference on 27 April. This will bring together a wide group of stakeholders to share views and experiences on the challenges and opportunities in NCD prevention and control. The launch of the WHO global status report on NCD will take place on this date.
A meeting of European delegations will also be held on 27 April 2011. This meeting will consider the outcome of the Oslo Regional Consultation and help coordinate the European contribution to the global Ministerial Conference and the United Nations High-level Meeting on NCD Prevention and Control.
