First day of World Health Assembly focuses on universal health-care coverage

The Sixty-fifth World Health Assembly, WHO’s annual global meeting of ministers and senior health officials, opened yesterday. In her opening address, Margaret Chan, WHO Director-General, emphasized the importance of universal coverage.
Follow webcast of health-financing course

Debating opportunities for public-private partnerships in the health sector of the Republic of Moldova

A workshop on "Opportunities for the implementation of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in the health sector of the Republic of Moldova" was organized on 26 March 2012 with support from WHO and the World Bank. The event was hosted by the Ministry of Health and brought together over 50 representatives of the Ministry and subordinated institutions, as well as the Ministry of Finance, Public Property Agency, public and private health care providers, suppliers of health care equipment, international organizations, and independent local and external experts.
WHO/Europe to assist Greece in pharmaceutical health care pricing

WHO/Europe has responded positively to a request from the Greek Ministry of Health and Social Solidarity to provide technical assistance in the field of pricing and reimbursement of pharmaceuticals and other public health areas based on a joint assessment. This was announced by Dr Hans Kluge, Director of the Division of Health Systems and Public Health, at a conference about the future of health care in Greece held in Athens on 20 March 2012.
Netherlands collaborating centre working on new approach to primary care

On 20 February 2012, WHO/Europe agreed key research areas for the next two years with the Netherlands Institute for Health Services Research (NIVEL), a WHO collaborating centre for primary care.

WHO, along with the World Bank and the Joint Learning Network for Universal Coverage (JLN), is developing a diagnostic and assessment guide to support countries making reforms to mechanisms for paying health-service providers.
Policy dialogue discusses Hungarian health system reforms

On 30 November 2011, the government of Hungary, WHO/Europe and the WHO Country Office, Hungary, organized a policy dialogue on the impact of health system reforms implemented in recent years before 2010, and on the recommendations to institutionalize health system performance assessment (HSPA) in a country context.
