Child and adolescent health

Personal stories

Working closely with Member States and local organizations, WHO/Europe offers technical support and has established several projects that aim at promoting well-proven effective interventions to improve the quality of care for children at home and at health facilities. The aim of these interventions is to ensure the survival and healthy growth of children, and to develop and strengthen the linkage between health services and communities.

Many changes have resulted from questioning and sometimes discarding old and familiar approaches previously considered appropriate or essential. The primary health care values to achieve health for all require health systems that "Put people at the centre of health care". Parents’ expectations for desirable care for their children constitute  an important  parameter for improving  the quality of child health services.

What practical difference does this make for both health providers and patients? The views presented here are from people who have been affected by WHO initiatives or taken part in training activities.
