WHO/Europe works on maternal and perinatal health in many of the 53 countries in the WHO European Region.
Health ministry commitment is a key factor in ensuring a strategic and legal framework for implementing appropriate policies and interventions, including scaling up to national level.
All 28 WHO country offices support this work, but WHO/Europe has biennial collaborative agreements on this particular issue with a number of countries, and 11 national professional staff are based in WHO country offices specifically to support health system reform.
