Sexual and reproductive health

Country work

WHO/Europe has biennial collaborative agreements in this area, with a number of its Member States:

  • to reduce morbidity and mortality and improve health during key stages of life, including pregnancy, childbirth, the neonatal period, childhood and adolescence;
  • to improve sexual and reproductive health and promote active and healthy ageing for all individuals;
  • to promote health and development and prevent or reduce risk factors for health conditions associated with unsafe sex.

WHO designs these activities in a process led by the relevant WHO country office, according to each country’s priorities, after a detailed analysis of its needs and priorities and with the involvement of stakeholders.

The new agreements cover 2010–2011. Different countries emphasize different aspects of this work, and link it to other WHO activities such as the work on health systems, noncommunicable diseases, HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections.

Countries whose agreements include work on reproductive and sexual health issues are:

  • Albania
  • Armenia
  • Azerbaijan
  • Georgia
  • Kazakhstan
  • Kyrgyzstan
  • Hungary
  • Latvia
  • Montenegro
  • the Republic of Moldova
  • Romania
  • the Russian Federation
