Potential malaria transmission areas in Georgia

Epidemiological characteristics

The conditions for malaria transmission are favourable in about 50% of Georgia’s territory, areas that include more than 90% of the population. Transmission is possible from June to September. Malaria vectors are Anopheles maculipennis, An. superpictus, An. claviger, An. sacharovi, An. hyrcanus, An. plumbeus and An. melanoon. All cases reported to date are Plasmodium vivax.
