A HEPA Europe working group is developing and implementing a Sports Club for Health (SCforH) programme in collaboration with TAFISA, the association for international Sport for All.
Sport clubs, the backbone of the sport movement, can give an important contribution to address low levels of physical activity in Europe. They see an increasingly stronger investment into health-related sports and physical activity promotion as an important opportunity.
The working group has so far produced a methodological basis and guidance for the SCforH programme. The SCforH guidelines were launched at the Third conference and annual meeting of HEPA Europe in October 2011, where the working group defined activities for their implementation.
The group consists of 8 members from 7 countries, led by Mr Jorma Savola from the Finnish Sport for All Association. It works in close collaboration with the European part of the Association For International Sport for All (TAFISA), the International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA) and the European Nongovernmental Sport Organisation (ENGSO).
In 2010, the work was supported by a grant of the Directorate General on Education and Culture (DG EAC) as part of the "preparatory action in the field of sport". This part of the project held its concluding symposium on 6-8 February 2011 in Vantaa, Finland, attended by 44 participants from 14 countries. The symposium presented the work carried out, endorsed a draft version of the SCforH guidelines, gave input to the SCforH program and guidelines and identified next steps for networking and future activities under the SCforH programme.
