Health impact assessment

Country work

WHO/Europe has made agreements with countries to provide expertise and support on health impact assessment (HIA). Country activities planned for 2010–2011 include capacity building (in Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Uzbekistan), development and implementation of HIA (Slovakia), equity-focused HIA (Portugal) and HIA of health care waste (Latvia). This work will build on similar activities in recent years, particularly in the countries of central and eastern Europe.

Assessments of exposure, risk and health effects from environmental hazards, as well as capacity building, are carried out at both local/national and subregional/regional levels.
