Water and sanitation
Ongoing work
To assist countries in reaching the objectives set by the Protocol on Water and Health, WHO and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), together with country representatives and international experts develop guidance documents addressing different aspects of water management, protection and safety.
Activities under the project facilitation mechanism, a tool to facilitate project funding, capacity building and international collaboration, also contribute to the implementation of the Protocol
Work is also devoted to cross-cutting issues, such as the integrated management of small water supply and sanitation systems, to help reduce water-related diseases in rural areas, and the achievement of equity in access to safe water .
The Millennium Development Goals are a priority in Protocol implementation.
