WHO Network Meeting for Prison Health 2011

12-08-2011

The WHO Network Meeting for Prison Health will take place on 4-5 October 2011, in Abano Terme, Italy. The main aim of the meeting is to share information between the WHO Regional Office for Europe and its Member States on prison health issues and best practices in the Region and in particular to discuss:

  • Stewardship role for prison health
  • Minimum Standards for prison health
  • Staff training

The network meeting is followed by the Throughcare Conference 2011, which will take place during 5-7 October 2011. On 5 October, the closing session of the network meeting will be followed by the opening ceremony of the conference.

The conference aims to explore the key issues in all organizations where people are detained – police arrest, police arrest houses, prisons (sentenced and pre-sentenced) and detention centres for migrants. The conference will be of interest to policy makers, criminal justice professionals, researchers, academics, practitioners and representatives from the media as well as for community organizations that provide services for prisoners while in detention and when they are released. We encourage all members of the WHO network for prison and health to attend the conference after the network meeting.
