Croatia to host First Regional Ministerial Conference on Organ Donation and Transplantation

On 4 June 2012 the Ministerial Conference "Heart to the Region − Beating Towards Self-sufficiency” will take place in Zagreb, Croatia. This Conference will focus on challenges in the field of organ donation and transplantation and will be held back-to-back with the 29th meeting of the South-eastern Europe Health Network (SEEHN) on 5-6 June 2012.
Netherlands collaborating centre working on new approach to primary care

On 20 February 2012, WHO/Europe agreed key research areas for the next two years with the Netherlands Institute for Health Services Research (NIVEL), a WHO collaborating centre for primary care.

Food safety officials from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia will be trained by WHO and FAO experts to stimulate a more effective participation in the Codex process by Balkan countries, who joined the Codex in recent years. The course will provide an in-depth knowledge of Codex and of how countries participate and can influence its work. The training will also focus on the use of Codex Alimentarius standards, guidelines and recommendations on food safety standards. Related issues, such as coordinating Codex work at the national level and linking it to other food safety country activities, will also be discussed.

World Health Day 2011: Health Champion

On the occasion of the World Health Day, the award ceremony for the selected Health Champion was organized by the Department for Health and Veterans of the Zagreb City Authority. The Champion title went to the psychologist Ljubica Uvodić Vranic. This award was presented to her by the Deputy Mayor Pavicic Jelena Vukicevic at the central event on the Flower market in Zagreb.
Inauguration of the Regional Health Development Centre on organ donation and transplantation in SEE countries, Croatia

On 22 February 2011 Dr Ante-Zvonimir Golem, State Secretary for Health and Social Welfare of Croatia, officially inaugurated the Regional Health Development Centre (RHDC) on organ donation and transplantation in south-eastern European (SEE) countries, located in Croatia.
Promoting food and water safety in the school system in Croatia: WHO workshop in Zagreb, 13-14 October 2010

The Biennial Collaborative Agreement (BCA) between Croatia and WHO/Europe for 2010-11 identifies food and water safety in the school system as a priority. The workshop aims to decrease the incidence of food- and waterborne diseases among school children in Croatia by increasing awareness and providing information to participants about the public health importance of food and water safety and hygiene in the school system. It will also serve as an input for improving hygiene and food safety habits among school children.

As part of activities to improve governance of hospitals and performance management, the WHO Country Office, the Croatian Medical Association and Croatian Society for Health Quality, in collaboration with Croatian Accreditation Agency and European Society for Quality in Health care (ESQH), organized a one-day symposium in Zagreb on 12 February 2010.
