WHO has designated the Department of Preventive Medicine in the Faculty of Public Health at the University of Debrecen, Hungary a WHO Collaborating Centre on Vulnerability and Health.

The strong nationwide smoke-free law covering public spaces (including workplaces, clubs and restaurants) came into force from 1 January 2012. It will fine an instant health care penalty upon the perpetrator of up to HUF 30 000HUF (EUR 100).
Hungary taxes unhealthy foods

On Friday, 25 February 2011, a group of members of the Hungarian Parliament, with Government support, submitted a motion for legislation that would make public places, restaurants, bars and workplaces in the country smoke free. Debate on this proposal starts in Parliament today, 28 February. WHO/Europe welcomes this initiative.
