Latvia hosts conferences on healthy ageing to mark World Health Day 2012

In celebration of World Health Day 2012 and its theme: "Good health adds life to years", two conferences were held in Latvia to discuss ways to promote healthy ageing. The first took place at Riga City Hall on 12 April and the second was hosted by the Parliament of Latvia on 13 April.
Environment and health training workshop in Latvia

Seventy participants from the health end environment sectors of eight countries (Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia) attended a training workshop on environment and health in Riga, Latvia from 19 to 23 March 2012.

On 6–9 March, a national workshop on Beyond the Numbers (BTN) was held in Riga, Latvia, to discuss and adopt new ways to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity in the country.

On 25 January 2012, Dr Ingrida Circene, Minister of Health, Latvia met with Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director for Europe and signed the Biennial Collaborative Agreement setting out areas of joint work between the Ministry and WHO/Europe for 2012–2013.
Latvia launches new public health strategy

Latvia has launched a new public health strategy for 2011–2017 in partnership with WHO/Europe. The strategy was launched and discussed at a Better Health for All in Latvia conference in Riga this week.
