The Fifth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health, held in 2010 in Parma, Italy, established the European Environment and Health Task Force (EEHTF) as the leading international body for implementation and monitoring of the European Environment and Health Process (EEHP). The first meeting of the Task Force will elect two Co-chairs,discuss the relevant aspects of the European environment and health governance and discuss and endorse specific actions as a follow-up to the Parma Conference commitments.

A national workshop on Essential Public Health Functions in Slovenia will take place in Bled, 13 April 2011 where approximately 80 national and international experts are expected to participate. The workshop itself is part of the activities agreed upon between WHO and Slovenia in the Biennial Collaborative Agreement 2010–2011. The conclusions reached at this workshop will serve as valuable input to the National Public Health Strategy.

The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia, in cooperation with WHO/Europe and WHO/Europe’s Office for Investment for Health and Development (based in Venice, Italy), is organizing a high-level forum in Brdo, Slovenia on 1 February 2011, to call for action to tackle the country’s social inequities in health. WHO/Europe will launch a report, “Health inequalities in Slovenia”, at the forum.

Slovenia traditionally marks the World Health Day by a series of events. The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia, the Slovenian Network of Healthy Cities and the Municipality of Celje, along with the WHO Country Office, prepared a national event under the title ‘‘1000 cities, 1000 lives: health in cities counts’’, which took place in Celje on 7 April 2010.
