The President of Ukraine last week signed a comprehensive tobacco advertising ban, taking a major step towards full compliance with the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, to which it became Party in 2006.

Ukraine scales up services for women with unwanted pregnancies

Ukraine has developed and implemented new national standards for safe abortion care. This achievement in improving the quality of services for women with unwanted pregnancies involved implementing evidence-based recommendations on safe abortion in selected regions. This was achieved within phase I of the project on Comprehensive Care for Unwanted Pregnancies (CCUP). The results of the project so far were presented at the National Dissemination Workshop on May 25–26, 2011.
Ukraine reports 14 cholera cases

Ukraine has reported to WHO 14 laboratory confirmed cases of cholera between 30 May and 6 June 2011 from Mariupol on the Sea of Azov in Donetsk oblast. A local laboratory in Donetsk has confirmed Vibrio cholerae serogroup O1, biotype El Tor, serotype Ogawa as the causative agent in all cases.

In 2009, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, supported by the WHO Regional Office for Europe and the Netherlands Institute for Health Services Research (NIVEL), evaluated primary care in Ukraine using PCET methodology. The results of the study are published in the final report "Evaluation of structure and provision of primary care in Ukraine". A national conference to launch the report was organized in Kiev on 15 December 2010.
4 countries release data on exposure to second-hand smoke
