Vision and objective

Building strategic partnerships is one of WHO/Europe’s main priorities and one of the crucial elements of the Regional Director’s proposals for: making a European health policy, strengthening health governance in the WHO European Region and developing WHO/Europe as a centre of public health excellence to achieve “better health for Europe”.

WHO/Europe is mandated to support governments and health authorities in the 53 Member States in the European Region. In pursuing its primary goal of improving the well-being and health status of over 880 million citizens in a socially and economically diverse region, WHO/Europe, under the leadership of the Regional Director, developed a strategy for partnerships for health in the European Region through which it will further strengthen relations with the European Commission. WHO/Europe will also strengthen its collaboration with other existing partners, approach new ones and work in a more structured manner, making use of memoranda of understanding and other formal agreements. WHO/Europe will continue to emphasize achieving tangible benefits to Member States from regional and country-level partnerships.
