HEN technical member 2003

The European Commission is an institution of the European Union. It works together with the Member States to protect and promote the health of European people. Health is a key priority for the European Commission.

The Commission's Directorate General for Health and Consumer Protection includes a Directorate for Public Health and Risk Assessment, which has the following objectives:

a) To assure a high level of human health protection in the development of all Community policies;
 
b) To take actions to improve public health in the European Union, to prevent human illness and diseases and to obviate sources of danger to human health;

c) To provide independent and transparent risk assessments through SANCO scientific committees;

d) To implement the Public Health programme (2003-2008).

Information available

Most of the relevant health information can be found in:

  • food safety: from the farm to the fork; and
  • public health.

In both cases the information is organized by topic and reports can be found either by topic or grouped together. A selection of the available information is accessible from the health topics list to the right of this page.
