Atlas of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) indicators
In 2000, 189 nations adopted the United Nations Millennium Declaration to enable, enhance and prolong people’s lives globally. This vision was transformed into the 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), 3 of which are directly related to health:
- MDG 4: reduce child mortality
- MDG 5: improve maternal health
- MDG 6: combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
The other MDGs address key determinants of health, including poverty and hunger, gender equality, environmental sustainability and global partnerships for development. Over 20 targets and 60 indicators were established to measure progress.
The MDG atlas features all indicators for MDGs 4 and 5 and include additional indicators associated with child mortality and maternal health in the European Region. Most indicators for MDG 6, many indicators for the remaining MDGs and many additional, related indicators can be shown and compared.
